Everything you need to know about buying, selling, and getting paid on Remark.
Browse listings, find a book you want, and click Buy Now. You'll enter your shipping address and pay via card. Your payment is held in escrow — we don't release it to the seller until the carrier scans their package.
Once delivered, you have 48 hours to flag any issues. After that window closes, funds are released to the seller automatically.
Yes. Remark uses escrow — your money is held by Stripe (not us, not the seller) until the package is verified by a carrier scan. The seller never touches your funds until delivery is confirmed.
If the seller never ships, you get a full automatic refund after their 5-day shipping deadline. If the book arrives and isn't as described, you can open a dispute within 48 hours of delivery.
Sellers grade their books on a scale unique to Remark:
Sellers can also add a free-text Annotation Note describing their notes (e.g. "color-coded by chapter, every formula derived in the margins").
Once payment is confirmed, the order cannot be cancelled directly — this protects sellers from buyers who back out. However:
For exceptional circumstances, contact us at [email protected].
You're protected in both cases:
Our team resolves disputes within 24 hours. You can open one from the Dashboard.
Remark accepts all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) through Stripe. Apple Pay and Google Pay are also supported where available.
We do not accept cash, Venmo, PayPal, or any off-platform payment. Attempting to pay outside Remark removes all buyer protections.
Go to Sell a book and follow the steps:
New listings enter a short review queue (auto-approved within 30 minutes if no flags) and then go live.
The ISBN photo proves you physically have the book you're listing. It's our primary anti-scam measure — it's much harder to fake a photo of a real barcode than to copy a listing from the internet.
Buyers can see this photo too, which increases their confidence before buying.
You have 5 days from the time of sale to drop the package off with a carrier. Remark generates your prepaid shipping label — just print it, pack the book, and hand it to USPS or UPS.
If you miss the 5-day window, the order is automatically cancelled and the buyer is refunded. 3 missed shipments result in account suspension.
Funds are released to your connected Stripe account after a hold period that starts from the carrier's first scan:
The hold is paused if the buyer opens a dispute. Once released, Stripe typically transfers to your bank within 1–2 business days.
Remark charges a 10% platform fee on the item price + shipping. This covers escrow, fraud protection, dispute resolution, and prepaid label generation.
Example: you list a book for $30 with $5 shipping. The buyer pays $35. You receive $31.50 (after the $3.50 fee) once the hold period clears.
Yes — before your first sale pays out, you need to complete Stripe Connect onboarding in your Settings. This takes about 2 minutes and requires your name, date of birth, and bank account details for payouts.
You can list and sell without completing this first, but funds will be held until you finish onboarding.
Remark generates prepaid shipping labels through EasyPost after a sale. The seller gets the label on their order detail page — they print it, pack the book, and drop it off.
We generate the label so tracking is verified end-to-end. The carrier's first scan triggers the escrow clock, protecting both sides.
Remark uses USPS and UPS depending on the best rate for the package. You'll see the carrier on the label — just drop it at any USPS or UPS location.
Yes. Once the seller ships, you'll see live tracking status on your Dashboard — from label created → carrier accepted → in transit → out for delivery → delivered. You'll also receive email updates at key milestones.
Typically 3–7 business days after the seller drops off the package. Sellers have up to 5 days to ship, so the full process from purchase to delivery is usually under 2 weeks.
Remark does not currently support expedited shipping, but we plan to add it.
When you sign up with a .edu email address, Remark awards you a Student Verified badge visible on your profile and listings. Buyers tend to trust verified sellers more, which helps your books sell faster.
You can add a .edu email in Settings at any time — you don't need to create a new account.
Your trust score is the average of all ratings you've received from buyers (for sellers) and sellers (for buyers), on a scale of 1–5. Ratings are left after an order completes.
A higher score shortens the escrow hold period for sellers (from 7 days down to 2 days at 5+ sales) and builds confidence with buyers browsing your listings.
Listings may be flagged or removed if they:
New accounts (under 7 days old or 0 prior sales) have stricter limits: max 3 listings per 24 hours. If you believe your listing was removed in error, email [email protected].
Yes — every listing has a Message seller button. You can ask about annotation style, specific chapters covered, or condition details before committing to a purchase.
Keep all communication inside Remark. Messages are monitored for safety and sharing external contact details or payment links is not allowed.
You can request account deletion from Settings. All personal data is removed within 30 days per our Privacy Policy. Active orders must be completed or resolved before deletion can proceed.
